Welcome

Welcome to our website, and thank you for stopping by! As Gibraltar’s only Jewish primary school, we take immense pride in nurturing each of our pupils to become the best they can be. Our students, who are kind, motivated, and involved in charity work, are our greatest ambassadors. We prepare them not only to excel academically but also to carry a deep pride in their Jewish identity and Gibraltarian heritage, equipping them with the skills and resilience they’ll need throughout life. Our strong Jewish ethos is woven throughout an integrated curriculum, and we’re committed to fostering a love of learning from Early Years onwards. Our dedicated staff are passionate about teaching, always encouraging our pupils to exceed their potential. At Hebrew Primary School, we believe that happy children learn best, and we create a warm, nurturing environment where they can thrive. We also offer exciting trips and activities, making learning an active and joyful experience. We’re proud to be part of the wider Gibraltarian community and are always looking to build strong connections with other local schools.

Welcome and thank you for taking the time to visit our website.

We are Gibraltar’s only Jewish primary school, and we strive for the best for each and every one of our pupils. We are extremely proud of our students, our best ambassadors, who are polite and caring children and motivated to strive for the best. Our pupils are generous in mind and spirit and involve themselves in diverse charity work. Our aim is to prepare them for their future with pride in their Jewish identity as well as pride in being Gibraltarian citizens preparing to contribute to society.  We give them the learning skills that will guide them throughout their lives; encouraging them to be independent thinkers and developing resilience in all they do.

Our commitment to our children is that they will have an excellent education across both the secular and Jewish Curriculum. We have a strong Jewish ethos which fosters a love of our traditions and culture throughout an integrated day. We look to develop links with other Gibraltarian schools and be an outward facing school.

We strive to be a centre for excellence in both Kodesh and National Curriculum studies, and we recognise that this begins in Early Years. We have developed a child centred approach where we foster a love of learning, through curiosity, investigation and exploration. Our staff in Early Years and across the whole school are passionate about teaching and always strive to do the best for their pupils, encouraging them to reach their potential and exceed their expectations.

Throughout all years at Hebrew Primary School, we give the children exciting opportunities for trips, visits and activities as part of our active learning approach.

Children at Hebrew Primary School love school and we believe passionately that happy children learn well. We invest in our children’s wellbeing so each child can thrive and do their very best. Our teachers have high expectations. Children are taught through a warm and nurturing approach with clear and consistent boundaries. As the Headteacher, it is an honour and privilege to work with an outstanding staff, dedicated governors, wonderful parents and delightful children!

We welcome you to come and visit the school.

Mrs C Posen

My name is Robert James Azopardi and my wife and I are both very proud and feel truly blessed to have two wonderful daughters.

I have been a teacher for over 20 years, and I have had the unique experience of teaching in the primary, secondary and tertiary education sectors.  My teaching career started at the Folkuniversitet in Västerås, Sweden where I lived for three years and learnt how to speak Swedish.

I have an BA Honours degree in Social Anthropolgy from the University of Sussex and attained my PGCE at Middlesex University.

I have taught mostly humanities subjects in secondary schools in the UK and Gibraltar, teaching in both the private and public sectors. My most recent employment was with Prior Park School, where I was a head of house and coordinator for the Duke of Edinburgh award. As one of the founders of the school, I was able to see it grow into the wonderful school it has become today.

When I moved back to Gibraltar, to be closer to my family and friends, I started working at Loreto Convent primary school. This was something close to my heart as I had spent many years as a student there. I also gained seven invaluable years of experience working within the primary sector. This is where I met my wife Nina, who is a gifted music teacher. Both of our children have also attended Loreto Convent School.

My teaching philosophy is centred around the child first and the idea that every student can succeed with the right support and guidance. I believe in creating an environment where children have a thirst for learning and are comfortable asking questions which will feed their innate curiosity. As a teacher, I want to encourage critical thinking and problem-solving. Building a child’s resilience and preparing them for life’s challenges is paramount and I encourage students to find courage. It is important for children to not only know the meaning of respect but to act with respect for those around them, as well as to respect their culture, traditions, nation and the planet which we all share.

The experience of having taught in two faith schools has been truly inspiring. As a religious Catholic, I believe in the importance of religion in an individual’s life and how it adds a greater sense of respect, purpose and meaning to oneself.

The Hebrew Primary School will be somewhere where children, staff and parents will feel a sense of pride. We look forward to not only making it a centre of excellence for teaching and learning but also a place where children will feel valued and happy, an environment where the individual will flourish and thrive.

I feel profoundly honoured and it is with great humility and prayers to Hashem for siyata dishmaya, that I step into the role of Head of Kodesh in this exciting new venture.

Our community school's history is woven deeply into my family's legacy, beginning with my great-great-grandfather Dayan Rahman  זצ״ל who took part in the laying of the foundation stone of the school and later, my great-grandfathers who played a pivotal role in representing the school to the Governor, ensuring its continuity during the uncertain times following the Second World War.

As I now have the privilege to lead this school into an exciting new phase, I am reminded daily of the dedication and passion of generations of teachers that have brought us to this moment. Our future is bright, and I am committed to upholding the values and traditions that have defined us while embracing the opportunities that lie ahead. With the help of Hashem, our endeavours in raising the children of our community in the ways of תלמוד תורה עם דרך ארץ will be met.
